1.  Look inside of the lantern for the top wooden ring, you will see the control wire that has two bends in it.  These bends were designed to clip into the two notches that you seen on both sides of the top wooden ring.

2.  Place the wooden base of the lantern with the tassel onto a firm surface.

3.  Push down gently on the top wooden ring so that the silk expands and the control wires protrude the top of the wooden ring.

4.  When the bends of the wire are just above the notches of the top wooden ring, push one of the bends into a notch, then push the other wire bend into the other notch in the wooden ring.

5.  By bending the wire gently outward just above the ring, you will lock the wires into palace.

6. If the top wooden ring does not stay level, you will need to bend the wires outward on each side to balance it.
